Mullumbimby Storytelling Group is a weekly group for people who love stories and want to gather in community to enrich and enliven the very human experience of telling stories.

What you need to know:
The stories
-
Appropriate stories will be provided for you to work with. If you have a particular story you are drawn to you are welcome to bring it along.
-
It is recommended that you work with one or two stories for the duration of the 8 week block and then you will be able to apply what you have learned to other stories you want to tell.
-
We will be working primarily with folktales. Folktales are found in cultures around the world and offer timeless wisdom and insight into life.
-
Please note that we are not creating new stories during the course, you are welcome to work with a story you have created if it is finished. Stories should be of a length that can be told in 10 minutes.
The structure
-
The group will be collaborative and connective. We will engage in individual, partner and group exercises to explore the world of story.
-
Each session could include: story, songs, games, partner exercises, individual reflection time and more.
-
As the weeks go on we will work with different practices and aspects of storytelling, each week will have a particular focus.
Attendance
-
You are encouraged to come to every session as each week builds on the previous weeks. After each session an email will be sent out that outline what we did and suggested homeplay.
-
Please arrive by 5.45 as we will start promptly at 6pm.
Content
-
The sessions will focus on developing the art and craft of telling stories and developing your confidence as a storyteller.
-
First we will focus on inhabiting the story, getting to know it as well as you know your home town. Secondly we will work on the craft of telling the story in a way that is honest, engaging and powerful.
-
This includes practices for building a repertoire of stories, voice and dialogue, gestures and gazes, tone and rhythm, beginnings and endings and so much more.
Audience
-
You may want to tell stories to your friends, children, grandchildren, family, workplace, community, or to the trees on your morning walk.
-
You will have the opportunity to tell stories to the group and publicly at our Community Storytelling Evening.
Coaching
-
Storytelling is a social experience. An integral part of the course is group coaching that is designed to help you hear and see yourself through the eyes of the listeners.
-
Coaching is only offered with your consent. Throughout the sessions we will offer group coaching.
-
For people who would like to deepen their craft and experience more focused one on one coaching you are welcome to purchase the coaching add on.
The Mullumbimby Storytelling Group is offered For the love of stories and is a fun and supportive space to explore your love of stories. You don't have to be a performer or a public speaker, simply somebody who loves stories! (Though you might just find that the quiet one, who longs to be heard, finds their voice through the magical world of stories).
"I enjoyed this course so much, I really felt that not only did my storytelling prowess get better, but so did my ability to speak in public in general. I feel like I've really grown in this space. It was also really fun!"
Hazel Compton
"Talia's 8 week course was incredibly informative and packed with engaging activities, skill building exercises and a chance to bond with other storytelling lovers.
I came with limited storytelling ability and have left feeling inspired and that telling stories is an essential facet to our happiness."
Juliet Settepani
"Being part of this storytelling course has been an incredible journey. Together, we spun threads of wisdom, adventure, and emotion into tales that reminded me of the magic in every moment. Some days, we had more energy. Others, we just needed a moment to integrate. Either way, the space always invited warmth and nurture. From characters who braved wild seas to those who found courage in the smallest (and courageous) of acts, our stories inspired me to look deeper into the narratives of life. Storytelling is not just about words – it’s about the worlds we build together."
Bia Figueiredo
"Talia, you hold space for stories to grow and come alive. The handy hints, tools and your ability to 'coach' the story out and through is immaculately caring and at times challenging, and this is how we grow..."
