FOR THE LOVE of STORIES basic.png

Fortnightly in Mullumbimby
3rd May -  14th June
1.45 - 5 pm

A Storytelling course for lovers of story and those wanting to improve their oratory skills.

What you need to know:

The stories

During your application call, we will determine which story you will work with throughout the course. This may be a story you have created, a folktale, or something else that we agree on together.

It is recommended that you work with one story for the duration of the course, allowing you to deepen your relationship with it. You will then be able to apply what you have learned to other stories you wish to tell.

The structure

The group will be collaborative and connective. We will engage in individual, partner, and group exercises to explore the world of story and develop oratory skills.

Each session may include storytelling, songs, movement, games, partner exercises, individual reflection time, and more. As the weeks progress, we will explore different practices and aspects of storytelling, with each session offering a particular focus.

Attendance

You are encouraged to attend every session, as each week builds on the last. After each session, a follow-up email will be sent outlining what we explored, along with suggested “homeplay” to continue your learning. Please arrive by 1:45pm so we can begin promptly at 2:00pm.

Content

The sessions will focus on developing both the art and craft of storytelling, as well as building your confidence as a storyteller.

We will begin by learning to inhabit the story—getting to know it as deeply as you know your hometown. From there, we will explore how to tell the story in a way that is honest, engaging, and powerful. This includes practices for building a repertoire of stories, as well as developing skills in voice and dialogue, gesture and gaze, tone and rhythm, beginnings and endings, and more.

Audience

You may want to tell stories to your friends, children, grandchildren, family, workplace, community, or to the trees on your morning walk.  You will have the opportunity to tell stories to the group and publicly at our Community Storytelling Evening.

Coaching

Storytelling is a social experience. An integral part of the course is group coaching that is designed to help you hear and see yourself through the eyes of the listeners. Coaching is only offered with your consent. Throughout the sessions we will offer group coaching. For people who would like to deepen their craft and experience more focused one on one coaching you are welcome to purchase the coaching add on.

The Mullumbimby Storytelling Group is offered For the love of stories and is a fun and supportive space to explore your love of stories. You don't have to be a performer or  a public speaker, simply somebody who loves stories! (Though you might just find that the quiet one, who longs to be heard, finds their voice through  the magical world of stories).

"I enjoyed this course so much, I really felt that not only did my storytelling prowess get better, but so did my ability to speak in public in general. I feel like I've really grown in this space. It was also really fun!"

Hazel Compton

"Talia's 8 week course was incredibly informative and packed with engaging activities, skill building exercises and a chance to bond with other storytelling lovers.

I came with limited storytelling ability and have left feeling inspired and that telling stories is an essential facet to our happiness."

Juliet Settepani

"Being part of this storytelling course has been an incredible journey. Together, we spun threads of wisdom, adventure, and emotion into tales that reminded me of the magic in every moment. Some days, we had more energy. Others, we just needed a moment to integrate. Either way, the space always invited warmth and nurture. From characters who braved wild seas to those who found courage in the smallest (and courageous) of acts, our stories inspired me to look deeper into the narratives of life. Storytelling is not just about words – it’s about the worlds we build together."

Bia Figueiredo

"Talia, you hold space for stories to grow and come alive. The handy hints, tools and your ability to 'coach' the story out and through is immaculately caring and at times challenging, and this is how we grow..."
